Obasanjo to host 55th Independence Anniversary schools debate

STUDENTS at the basic education level in Nigeria will converge on Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, for an inter-state SUBEB debate.
The former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has agreed to personally attend the event, according to the National Coordinator, Mr President School Debate Programme, Nigeria (PSDP), Elder Dare Oritu.

The PSDP has been organising series of inter-school and inter-state debates among primary, junior and senior schools in the country to promote unity and boost learning as well as encourage effective public speaking skills among the youth.
“Annually, we organise debate tournaments for these children in different categories to celebrate Nigeria’s independence anniversary. This year, the former president, Chief Obasanjo, has magnanimously agreed to celebrate the 55th Independence Anniversary with Nigerian youths at his Presidential Library, Abeokuta.

“Our participating students are drawn from the 36 states in the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), courtesy of the States’ Universal Basic Education Board.
“The Ogun State government has volunteered to accommodate the participants with cash award awaiting the outstanding teams.”
According to Elder Oritu, the programme is scheduled to start from October 11 through 16, 2015. Some state governors have been nominated for award in recognition of their achievements in their various states.
Among governors to be given awards are the Oyo State governor, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi; Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
He appealed to all the chairmen of SUBEBs in the country to encourage their students to attend the programme.
