3 Shortcuts to Discovering Your Hidden Passion In Life

The Myth Of The Few

The myth we have heard all our lives is that only the lucky few are afforded the luxury of having a passion. Perhaps they knew from a young age exactly what they loved, or were lucky enough to stumble at just the right time across the passion which would go on to shape their lives.
The truth is that all of us can find the passion that will enrich and motivate us, using a few simple shortcuts and techniques. Below are 3 key strategies to get you started!

1 - Start The Search Within
The mistake many people make is to search endlessly for their passion outside of themselves. We read stacks of books and trawl the internet for the promise of the perfect way to spend our time. Information overload and fatigue sets in. We feel defeated and overwhelmed.

Why not simplify things? Look within yourself to find the hidden passions you've overlooked. As children we all had passions, but as we grow older they can become forgotten and neglected. Pick up a pen and paper and start to write down your childhood passions, ask old friends and parents if you are stuck for ideas. Perhaps you were a budding musician or comic book artist? Maybe an avid collector of costume jewellery or gemstones? Write it all down. Chances are there are hidden passions just waiting to be rediscovered.

2 - Set Yourself A Challenge
Now that you have identified some of your old passions pick one that stands out to you. As an example, perhaps your childhood love of painting brings back fond memories? Now its time to set yourself a challenge to see if it still makes you tick! For the next 10 days you will paint. Set yourself a little time aside each day, as little as 20 minutes is okay, longer if you have the time.

Don't put any pressure on yourself to achieve the impossible. Relax! This is a challenge of rediscovery. After the 10 days are up repeat the cycle. At this stage it can be very helpful to try a range of old interests. After all, each challenge will only take 10 days of your time - and you may just find something you love.

3 - Connect The Dots
Hopefully after setting yourself some challenges you have found something of interest. You may not consider it a passion yet, but passions take time to develop and grow. Now you need to connect the dots. Find a spark of interest and run with it. Discover new ways of doing things and open your mind to the possibilities.
Say for example, you have uncovered an interest in cooking. Dig deeper, read and research about
different types of cooking, practice new techniques and recipes, source new ingredients and try different cuisines.

Are you feeling positive? Are you ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery? Great! Remember to have fun and let your passions and interests grow and develop. If you follow these strategies you have the best chance to open up your potential and find that special thing you will look forward to doing again and again.
