Facebook Mobile users increases in Nigeria and Kenya

The number of people in Kenya and Nigeria, and Africa as a whole using Facebook Mobile as a medium to connect and share with others has increased sharply, Facebook Inc. has revealed.

Facebook revealed that 4.5 million Kenyans use Facebook each month, that’s 2.2 million daily active users (DAUs) while monthly active users (MAUs) in Nigeria stands at 7.1 million, that’s 15 million
Nigerians using Facebook on a daily basis, with almost all these people accessing Facebook on a mobile device: 100% of Nigerian monthly users are active on mobile as are 95% of Kenya’s monthly users.

Facebook Inc. had earlier revealed that its active user population in Africa has grown 20% to 120 million in June 2015 from 100 million in September 2014, and following this new announcement, 60% of all Internet users in Africa are active on Facebook.

“Mobile is not a trend; it’s the fastest adoption of disruptive technology in history of communication. It’s also an incredibly personal device regardless of where a person lives or how they connect, and businesses need to reach people where they are, not where they were, in an authentic, personal and relevant way. I look forward to spending time with businesses across Africa to understand how we can work together.” said Nunu Ntshingila, newly appointed Head of Africa at Facebook.

Facebook Inc. recently opened its first office in Africa as it looks to leverage the increasing Internet usage via mobile devices by Africans to further expand its reach, grow its business and also help Africans connect with families, friends and grow their businesses both locally and regionally.

The team in Africa will focus initially on Kenya (East Africa), Nigeria (West Africa), and South Africa (Southern Africa) as they are on the forefront in Facebook usage in Africa with 4.5 million users, 15 million users and 12 million users respectively.

Facebook, which has grown to become the most preferred social networking platform in the world, was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and his Harvard college roommates with a mission to make the world more open and connected by giving people the power to share, and going by the statistics, they are sure doing that!
