Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics gets new president
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has elected Mr Usman Dutse of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, as its new president. He succeeds Mr Chibuzo Asomugba.
Dutse was declared winner by the ASUP Electoral Committee Chairman,
Mr Precious Nwakodo, at the 13th National Delegates Conference in Bida,
Niger State, on Thursday.
He polled 113 votes to defeat two other candidates, Mr Nda-Umar Idris and Alhaji Abdukaram Ibrahim, who scored 47 and 25 votes respectively.

LASU students union protests increment in acceptance fee
The Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) on Tuesday urged the institution’s authorities to revert the increment of the newly-admitted students’ acceptance fee from N20,000 to N10,000.
Mr Adeyemi Onikoro, LASUSU Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the reduction should be with immediate effect.
He said that such policy, if not reverted, may lead to a looming crisis from the students.
Onikoro said that the increment was another strategy devised by the authorities to exploit the students and a technical way of increasing the school fees.

Fidelis Njokanma has refused to occupy his office at the Ojo campus of
the institution, our correspondent gathered on Tuesday.
Instead, Njokanma, who is a professor of Medicine, is operating from the institution’s College of Medicine at Ikeja.
